VHS to DVD ??
« on: February 08, 2010, 06:59:53 pm »
OK, have a VHS / DVD combo unit and been happily copying my movies over from VHS to DVD and then got to one that it came up with a message saying Copy Protection and it couldn't make a DVD of the VHS tape.

Thought maybe advance the tape some and then try to dub it... and same thing DVD will not copy the VHS tape.

Now I have thought of connecting an old VHS machine via the RCA plugs to the DVD player and trying that, it should work unless they have done something with the video or audio to unsynch them, but wondered if anyone else has run into this issue and how it got resolved if you were able.

Any thoughts?  Suggestions? Ideas?

Hookup a VHS player to a DVD recorder?

Could this be a PAL/NTSC thing?

No the tapes are NTSC

What I am thinking is there are RCA OUTS on the player... 1 video and 2 audio  connect them to the RCA INS on the DVD recorder.. Hit play hit record... dub it from a separate machine to the DVD burner unit.

Yay Macrovision. Making VHS pictures crappier than they should be since 1992. If you've got an older VHS player (like, 20+ years) then it shouldn't be as "sensitive" to it as the newer players are. Otherwise, you'll need to find a signal strength amplifier.

But, what tapes would you yourself create that would have macrovision on them?

Objection!  Assumes facts not in evidence.
